Times have changed.. and so must you! We all have to evolve to move to the next level, and the new recession has brought us to a whole new place that we must adjust to, and then move beyond.

Adjusting our expectations may be a part of doing business now, but also, there are many things that we can do that can help us adjust. We just need to have a strategy and get and stay prepared for what may or may not come.

1. Keep focused on moving forward. You need a plan that will keep you in a good mental place every day… for instance, turning off the TV and stop listening to the doom and gloom, and create a future for you and your business that will be of immense value to the markeplace. You probably need to spend some creative time thinking about your new plan, and you might need to meet with new people to help you create this plan, but be for sure, you need to have a new plan that will keep you motivated to moving forward.

2. Decide to be a LEADER in your life, business, industry and community. What does that mean to you and how do you do it? It takes effort and practice, but at this time in our economy, people NEED to stand up and decide to be a leader. Don’t live with others’ expectations on you. Be assertive and create answers, and create solutions to the problems that now plaque us. Turn into an investigator, learn the new ropes, study and evolve, so you can pass along this information to others and they can see you as the shining star that you are.

3. Practice Strength. How do we do that? Well, in the gym, you work out every day to increase your muscle strength, and over time your muscles start to emerge and show up where fat used to take place. So evaluate yourself- mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Where is the fat? Where can you start building strength that will balance your whole life so you can emerge as a stronger individual that will be a leader for others.

4. Get Current! Get on the social networking sites. If you don’t, you’ll be looking like a complete dinosaur in the next year. Jump on the technical bandwagon and stop saying you’re not technical.. just do it and learn it! Talk about it, spend time doing it. It’s not going away, so engage with it and have fun with it!

5. Have FUN. If you’re having fun, then other people will have fun around you. Spend time getting out of the box, and getting creative and learning new things. The new economy is forcing people to go in new directions so be excited about it, and create new opportunities for yourselves and others. Think about new ideas that will draw people to you and your organization, offer fun times and offer sources of learning. People will engage with you personally and professionally, if you’re offering to take their mind off of things for a while

This new economy is really an exciting time! But you have to decide to do it, and then keep focused on a path that will allow yourself to grow and change and show yourself as a leader. It can end up being, the best
time of your life if you let it, and not your worst, as so many people are seeing it now.

Truly great impersonators have more than just “the look,” they also have the uncanny ability to embody the heart and soul of the person they are imitating. That’s what makes Patsy Gilbert so spectacular in her presentation of political luminary Sarah Palin. Both were pageant queens, athletic team captains, hold the same university degree (Bachelor of Journalism), had the same first job (TV news anchor), and even more remarkably, like Sarah, Patsy and her husband were blessed with a loving Down Syndrome child. Patsy (again like Sarah!) cut her teeth in broadcast journalism—developing a homespun honesty on both sides of the camera. They are both runners and have gun-totin’ First-Dude types who love to hunt and fish. When Palin burst onto the national stage, Gilbert developed comedic material while perfecting Palin’s accent and mannerisms. She was a smash at “Sunburst Celebrity Impersonator’s Convention” and has posed for photos with thousands of enthusiastic fans from Florida to California.

The language of the future
Text messaging, Internet chats are changing the way we communicate.

ANFSCD.

Confused? That is no typo. You’re seeing the English language of the future.

What does it mean? ANFSCD: And now for something completely different …

As the Internet becomes more and more prominent in our everyday lives, many aspects of our lives are being affected. Not only is our language becoming a shorthand version of itself online, but offline language has evolved to become a lot more rapid and abbreviated.

And I’m not talking about streamlining our messages to pithy parables that offer infinite wisdom. Rather, we speak in shorthand.

Think back to the ’90s when “blah, blah, blah” became a popular replacement for the “rest of the story.” In our busy lives, it was beginning to take too much effort to communicate all the details, so we began to make assumptions our audience could fill in the blanks.

Jerry Seinfeld’s gang coined the term “yada, yada, yada,” enthnicizing “blah, blah.” In large cities, the hip crowd uses statements such as “words, words, words” to convey an assumed, deeper meaning in the conversation. “Yeah, yeah” dismisses further talking or relays an understanding of the intended meaning.

There are a couple of things happening here we need to pay attention to. As the virtual world takes the forefront, the language of the Internet will begin to spill into our everyday lives. With English being the dominant language on the Internet, more people will do business in English.

This means people will need to learn the shorthand version of English, which means it’s only a matter of time before acronyms and shortcuts start to pop up in normal, everyday conversation. For some, conversations will seem like a foreign language.

ICOCBW (I could of course be wrong), but I don’t think so. Already, the NextGens spend more time communicating via text messages, chat, instant messages and e-mail than they do in person or voice to voice.

A recent study, for example, found that nearly half of Korea’s teenagers are addicted to their mobile phones. A survey of 1,100 youths aged 14 to 19, conducted in Seoul by the Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion, an arm of the Ministry of Communication, said that four out of 10 students send and receive text messages during class and that the same proportion sends more than 1,000 text messages a month.

One student reported frazzled nerves when she forgets to carry her cell phone. Another said he kept his cell phone next to him while bathing. The author stated, “The little instruments are not just a way to communicate, it seems, they are a part of their owner’s psyche.”

Even ITRW (in the real world), attention spans have shortened and patience has worsened. Busy executives or people in big cities may have always needed to speak “sound bites” due to rushed schedules, but now we are beginning to hear this behavior cross over in business everywhere.

Having the ability to get the point across more quickly on the phone, in person and via e-mail is almost a necessary skill.

For those of you who are developing the art of “fast talking,” check out How to Get Your Point Across in 30 Seconds or Less by Milo O. Frank. For “long talkers,” it should be required reading.

But don’t worry, it’s short at just over 120 pages. LOL (laugh out loud).

IHTHBE (I hope this has been enlightening).
